How much money do you need to immigrate to Canada?


 Money is one of the most important factors that is required to immigrate to Canada. Not only at the time of processing of application but also at the time of Immigration to Canada as well proof of funds is required by the candidates to show that the candidate has he has enough money available to sustain himself and his family for the time in between till he / she finds a job in Canada. Further, subject to the category under which the candidate is applying for the Permanent Residency (PR) status to Canada the amount of funds needed by the candidate will keep on changing.



The processing fee for immigration

The processing fee changes as per the category that the candidate has applied for and each candidate will be charged differently based on the category of immigration. Most common category of applying for the Permanent Residency (PR) status of Canada is through the Skilled worker’s category and under this category there are three major sub divisions for payments –

  • Principal applicant -  550$
  • Secondary applicant – 550$
  • Child fee (Under 22 years of age) - 150$\


 If the candidate is migrating through the sponsorship category, then the fee charged would be different –

  • The sponsorship application fee - 75$
  • The person who is sponsored will be charged – 475$


Further, the applicants who want to settle in the Quebec region should apply for a certificate de Selection du Quebec(CSQ) and the fee charged in this category would be 

  • Principal applicant -  750$
  • Secondary applicant – 168$
  • Child fee (Under 22 years of age) - 150$


Apart from the above mentioned fees all the candidates who have landed in Canada are required to pay a fee called “The right of permanent Resident fee” upon landing which is $490 per person.

Some of the expenditures apart from processing

Apart from the the expenditures mentioned above there are many other expenditures which are required both at the time of pre-processing and post processing of the application. Some of the pertinent expenditures in the category are listed below

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination – around 12000 RS
  • Travelling expedition – 1700 $– 1800 $ CAD
  • Medical examination – 200 $ CAD
  • Police verification – 15 $ CAD
  • Passport – 15$ CAD
  • Education Credential Assessment expenditure – 1200 $ CAD



The above mentioned expenditure list is just a general list of the detailed expenditure that might be needed at the time of immigration and the expenditure amount and specifications can vary depending on the case and individual’s candidature for immigration. Also, it is wise and smart to be prepared for untimely expenditures that may arise during the course of application filing.

 A smart and well aware candidate will always choose the immigration service after complete research about the track record and successful cases handled by the immigration Service. Further, the immigration service should also be registered under the ICCRC.  A Good immigration services will provide additional services to its clients like IELTS guidance and job consultancy.  It is important that all the factors are carefully analyzed before hiring a representative for the case.
